ISN Suggests High Performance Director Be Appointed Towards Achieving Malaysia's First Olympic Gold

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Institute (ISN) is proposing the appointment of a high performance director to monitor the performance of potential athletes to realise the country's first Olympic gold at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero in 2016.

"The involvement of sports managers, coaches, sport scientists as well as sport association leaders is important to ensure the level of sports performance to achieve the mission and vision we are targeting.
"Maybe we need a person who could become the high performance director or the coach himself to coordinate the athlete's performance," said ISN chief executive officer Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.

Ahmad Shapawi said expertise in sports science was still not sufficient to monitor all programmes carried out by sports associations to identify high performance athletes.

"What we are doing now is to preview previous programmes for the future preparation programme. We must admit we lack the expertise to monitor all programmes," he told reporters after a Forum entitled 'Post Performance- Road To London' at Dewan Perdana ISN in Bukit Jalil here Thursday.
