'Injured' Chong Wei Expected To Play In Axiata Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will not drop Datuk Lee Chong Wei's name from the list of players for the Axiata Cup although has not recovered from a shoulder injury.

BAM General Manager Kenny Goh said initial medical tests shows that Chong Wei's injury was not serious and would be able to play in the round-robin competition from Friday to Sunday at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Cheras here.

"We understand that the injury is not serious...but we will wait for a full report from a medical expert," he told Bernama here Monday.

Chong Wei was forced to retire during the second game of the All England men's singles final against Lin Dan of China due to a shoulder injury, handing Lin Dan his fifth title.

National Sports Institute (ISN) Director-General Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz had said that the injury could take between three to five weeks to heal.
