Mini Olympics Will Be Held As Scheduled

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) -- The Mini Olympic Games, the platform for national athletes vying for places to the 2012 London Olympic will be held as scheduled on June 19-27.

Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) honorary secretary said all eight sports associations have agreed to stick to the orignal date.

"Badminton, cycling, archery, shooting, athletics, swimming, weightlifting and gymnastic will be competed at four venues in the Klang Valley," he told Bernama here Tuesday.

The date became an issue after it was found to be the same as the Indonesian Open Super Series Championship.

(OCM) said the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have three choices.

It could cancel participation in Indonesia, attend the Mini Olympics on another date or skip it altogether.

OCM would meet next week to consider a BAM proposal to have the badminton Mini Olympics on July 4-5.
