Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar welcomed the new minister.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar welcomed the new minister.
"OCM is always keen on working closely with the Government and the new minister can expect our full support," said Tunku Imran.
However, Tunku Imran said it would have been better if the ministry had been merged with the Education Ministry.
"What Malaysian sports really need is the different ministries working better together.
"I would have preferred if youth and sports had been merged with the Education Ministry as what Malaysian sports need is a senior leader heading the drive towards excellence."
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is also the Education Minister.
"Tan Sri Muhyiddin is a former sports minister and he understands the needs of Malaysian sports."
However, Tunku Imran said the appointment of two deputy ministers is an acknowledgement from Najib on the importance of both youth and sports.
"Datuk Seri Najib is himself a former sports minister and an excellent one at that.
"Furthermore, he heads the Cabinet Committee for Sports and he understands what needs to be done," said Tunku Imran.
