

OCM Honorary secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said the election for office bearers during the AGM would be for a two-year term (2009-2011) as the term for the current office bearers ends in June.
"The OCM has set May 30 as the date for the AGM and election of office bearers for 2009-2011 term. Other details will be released soon," he told Bernama when contacted here today.
Kok Chi said OCM are currently in the process of preparing the relevant nomination papers for the AGM.
He added that in accordance with the OCM constitution, 34 national sports associations affiliated to OCM are eligible to nominate three delegates each to attend and vote during the AGM, bringing the number of voting delegates to 102.He added that apart from the 102 delegates, the incumbents are also eligible to cast their votes.
During the election of office bearers for the 2007-2009 term, president and honorary secretary's posts had initially faced challengers from former Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (President) and Datuk Wira Mazlan Ahmad (honorary secretary), but both withdrew later.
With their withdrawal, Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar who took over from Tan Sri Hamzah Abu Samah in 1999, Kok Chi at the helm since 1992 retained their posts together with deputy president Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan who was not challenged.
Asked if he would defend his post, Kok Chi said he was ready to defend his post if nominated and added that the OCM elections were always held in a democratic way and anybody eligible can contest for posts.
