The 888 feet long Banner was especially produced on June 7 held in conjunction with the Birthday Celebrations of HM the King of Malaysia. It contains both paintings and calligraphies by over 400 local artists of all races and ages, which was duly accredited in the ‘Guinness Book of Records’ for being a single piece of artwork produced by the most number of artists. Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi and Mr Fong Wan Hor of OCM played a major role in the organizing foundation.
The more significant message is a show of strong support by Malaysians for the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympics, thus cementing further the already firm bond of friendships currently prevailing between the two countries. Malaysia assures China’s spirit of ‘One World - One Dream’ for the Games will be further enhanced.
HE Mr He in reply expressed his greatest gratitude of the kind gesture demonstrated by Malaysia towards China; he gladly acknowledged receipt with pleasure the Banner presented. He further wishes the friendship between the two countries will continue to flourish.
Prof Chin responded by paying special tribute to HE Mr HE whom he met in Lausanne some years back. He compliment Mr He for his good health, dedication and immense contributions towards the Olympic Movement. As far as OCM is concerned, Prof Chin emphasised its continuance to promote Culture and Education espoused by the IOC Charter. OCM had since conducted twice the ‘IOC Sport and Art Contest’ held in conjunction with the Olympic Games. He was indeed happy to report for the Beijing Olympics that Malaysia’s sculpture entry by Mr Mior Nafis Zain had won 2nd prize for USD20,000, under the creditable chairmanship of HE Mr He.
The ceremony ended with a happy note of a group photo with best wishes of performance mutually extended to both countries for the upcoming Beijing Olympics.
Proceeding thereon, Prof Chin joined the Malaysian delegation in holding a Dialogue session held with the China Local Culture Association on June 22, at the Peoples Great Hall where artists from both countries interacted their practical artistic skills, with Prof Chin started by introducing the Malaysian artist with his calligraphy piece. The session ended with a dinner hosted by the Chinese counter parts.
The Malaysian delegation also visited art schools and galleries; China’s artistic developments had greatly advanced in recent years in its post-modern movements represented by impressionism, surrealism, abstract art etc.
The delegation returned home on June 23. 24.6.2008
