The idea, mooted by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, will certainly give Malaysian sport a huge boost.
OCM secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said yesterday that they had signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the production company, Peninsular Digital, to realise OCM’s dream of having a television channel to promote local sports.
“This company will work together with Astro to screen local sports shows on one its channels. We will be able to telecast our own sports events once the financial matters are finalised,” said Kok Chi.
He said the move to use television to promote local sports was welcomed by all the National Sports Associations (NSAs).
“Tunku is very excited about having a television channel solely for local sports. The OCM will work together with the production company and Astro on the contents of the show,” said Kok Chi.
“Some of our NSAs had told us that their sport does not get enough publicity. This is one way of helping them. With more publicity, it will help the NSAs to get sponsors.”
