KUALA LUMPUR: Manulife Insurance Bhd, a worldwide Olympic sponsor, presented cash rewards totalling RM30,000 to the individual and team gold medallists of the recent Korat SEA Games yesterday.
It was the highest amount to be distributed by the company since the programme began in 1995. An individual gold medallist RM1,000. A winning teams of two or three members received RM500 each and it was RM400 each for a team of four members.
In addition, individual gold medallists who broke SEA Games records received an additional RM500.
The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president, Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan, said that the criteria was to select the best male and female athlete for each sport that produced gold medallists in the Games.

“Throughout this programme, we want to encourage more Malaysian athletes to give their utmost best in reaching higher levels of excellence in sports,” said Robertson, adding that the programme had rewarded over 250 athletes for their performances at the SEA Games, Asiad, Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
Malaysian registered their best-ever result in a Games held outside the country with a haul of 68-52-96 at the 24th edition of the biennial multi-sports carnival.
RECIPIENTS
Archery: Cheng Chu Sian (recurve individual and team) RM1,000.
Swimming: Daniel Bego (men's 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle) RM1,500; Khoo Cai Lin (women's 400m and 800m freestyle) RM1,500.
Diving: Yeoh Ken Nee (1m and 3m springboard and 3m synchronised) RM1,000; Leong Mun Yee (women's 1m springboard and 3m synchronised) RM1,000.
Athletics: Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian (men's 110m hurdles) RM1,500; Roslinda Samsu (women's pole vault) RM1,500.
Basketball: Women's team (12 members) RM4,800.
Billiards and snooker: Moh Keen Hoo (individual snooker) RM1,000.
Bowling: Women's trios RM1,500.
Cycling: Rizal Tisin (1km time trial) RM1,000.
Equestrian: Qabil Ambak Mohd Fathil (dressage individual and team, show jumping individual and team) RM1,000.
Gymnastics: Ooi Wei Siang (men's horizontal bar) RM1,000; Chan Sau Wah (women's uneven bars) RM1,000; Chrystal Lim (rhythmic gymnastics) RM1,000.
Hockey: Men's and women's teams (16 members each) RM12,800.
Karate: Lim Yoke Wai (men's kumite below 65kg and Open) RM1,000; G. Yamini (women's Open) RM1,000.
Lawn bowls: Men's pair RM1,000; women's pair RM1,000.
Polo: Six-member team RM2,400.
Sailing: Mohd Romzi Muhamad (International Laser) RM1,000; Nurul Elia Anuar (Laser Radial) RM1,000.
Shooting: Men's 25m rapid fire pistol team (three members) RM1,500; women's 50m rifle prone team (three members) RM1,500.
Squash: Elvinn Keo (men's singles) RM1,000.
Taekwondo: Elaine Teo (women's below 51kg) RM1,000.
Triathlon: Kimbeley Yap RM1,000.
Wushu: Chai Fong Ying (women's taijiquan all-round) RM1,000.
