KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) is working on a 24-hour sports channel featuring Malaysia-centric sports programmes on the Astro cable network next year.
A source familiar with the plan said OCM would work together with a local production house, Peninsula Digital Sdn Bhd, to produce the programmes while Astro would provide a special channel to air them.
The channel would be similar to the Supersports, ESPN, Star Sports and Eurosports channels, all of which broadcast international sporting events.

The objective of the round-the-clock channel is to promote a healthy lifestyle among 26 million Malaysians through active participation in sports, said the source.
The OCM, Peninsula Digital and Astro All Asia Networks Plc are expected to put the plan into motion by inking a memorandum of understanding on Sept 4.
The council recently held an informal meeting with representatives from Peninsula Digital and national sports bodies which was seen by observers as an indication that efforts were underway to realise the sports channel.
Meanwhile, OCM secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi told Bernama when contacted that the 24-hour channel was still at the planning stage.
"Just wait for Sept 4 as OCM president Tan Sri Tuanku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar will officially announce it at the MoU signing," he said.
He also called on all national sports bodies to send their programmes for next year to the OCM before the end of the month to facilitate content planning for the sports channel.
