Commonwealth Games Delegates from India, Malaysia, Brunei, the Maldives and Cyprus arrived in Glasgow Wednesday to inspect Glasgow’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Friday toured Hampden, Scotland’s National Stadium, where the track and field events would take place. Roy Rajasingham, Vice President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, said he was very impressed with Glasgow’s plans. “I have been most impressed over the first two and a half days of our visit. What you have in Glasgow in place at the moment is certainly on par with what Melbourne had for their games (in 2006). It is going to be a world number one by the time the Games come in 2014”. Rajasingham called Glasgow “very picturesque and beautiful” and the people “friendly and kind”. He said the athletes being able to walk to the Opening Ceremony (at Celtic Park near the Athletes Village) is so convenient. In Melbourne we were using coaches and buses and I remember it became so cold in the evening after the ceremony, but you won’t have that here”. He called security in Glasgow “more than sufficient”. Rajendra Sing-Bengani of India, who competed for India in bowling at previous Commonwealth Games said he had the same feelings. “I have to say I feel the same and I’m really enjoying the visit. It is great for me to be here.”
The group from Asia is leaving Scotland on Sunday.
