PUTRAJAYA, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Cooperation between the National Sports Institute (NSI) and the National Sports Council (NSC) in sports science through its satellite centres nationwide can benefit athletes.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said as sports science was instrumental in producing outstanding athletes, it should be emphasised among athletes starting at the grassroots level.
"The elements of science, medicine and sports technology provided by the NSI, world-class athletes could be produced to enhance the image of the country in sports internationally," he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the NSI and the NSC from various states here Thursday.
He said through the NSI-NSC cooperation, duties and responsibilities of both parties became clearer and more systematic, apart from creating evidence-based athlete training.
Efforts to produce local experts also have to be implemented through a comprehensive programme, he added.
The MoU was signed between NSI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz and NSC state directors with the exception of that of Melaka and Sabah who would pen it later.
To date, the NSI has 11 satellite centres in 10 states and another at Sekolah Sukan Tengku Mahkota Ismail, Johor which provides sports science services in the field of sports psychology, adapted physical education, exercise physiology and sports nutrition.
