ISN, NSC To Consult Gynecologist Before Nur Suryani Can Compete In London

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Institute (ISN) and the National Sports Council (NSC) will get expert opinions from a gynecologist to determine whether Nur Suryani Taibi can compete in the London Olympics at a late stage of pregnancy.

"Based on calculations, Nur Suryani will be eight months pregnant during the Olympics. The situation need to be monitored closely. That is why we need to consult a gynecologist to determine her status.

"However, I am both proud and happy with the determination and courage shown by Nur Suryani," said Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, Chef-de-Mission for the Olympics.

Ahmad Sarji who is also the President of the Malaysian Lawn Bowls Federation had earlier chaired a meeting on the preparations of the Malaysian contingent for the Olympics, at Menara PNB here.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Sarji said he was also informed of shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei's status by ISN Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz.

Ahmad Sarji also advised athletes who have already qualified for the Olympics to try and avoid injuries before the Olympics scheduled from July 27 to Aug 12 in London.
