NSI’s Ah Jit: Training stint value for money - The Star

BATH: The total cost of the World Championships-bound badminton team’s centralised training at the University of Bath is about £11,000 (RM53,000).
The National Sports Institute’s (NSI) Wong Ah Jit said the amount covered accommodation, transportation and use of facilities at the University of Bath.

“It’s a reasonable sum considering that all the facilities are within the range. All the players stayed at the university hostel, which was comfortable,” said Ah Jit, who flew in a few days earlier to coordinate their stay here.

The rooms, one for each player, did not have television sets but had Internet facilities.
“We were charged less than £30 a room. The host were hospitable and the Malaysian team were treated well.

“I am happy to get all the good feedbacks from the players and coaches. This centralised training will surely benefit them.”

The World Championships-bound players are Lee Chong Wei, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Hoon Thien How, Lim Khim Wah-Chan Peng Soon, Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty, Ng Hui Lin-Ng Hui Ern, Goh Liu Ying and Ong Jian Guo-Sabrina Chong.

The coaches are Rashid Sidek, Rexy Mainaky, Tey Seu Bock, Pang Cheh Chang and Jeremy Gan and the sparring players are Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Chan Kwong Beng, Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid-Vountus Indra Mawan and Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo. The team officials are Ng Chin Chai, Datuk James Selvaraj and Ahmad Johari Wahab.

Ah Jit was also happy with the NSI’s seven-member support team and two chefs who were in Bath.
They are physical trainers Mohd Roesdi Abdul Ghani, Behrad Honar; physiotherapist Fadzil Mohd Salleh; sports analysts Jerry Gan; nutritionist Chai Wen Jin; masseurs Li Da Zhi and Chen Jia Mei; and chefs Jammy Bayang and Foong Poh Wah.
