OS/OCA Forum concludes in Oman

The two-day Olympic Solidarity/OCA Continental Forum wrapped up on Tuesday (July 13) at the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa in the Sultanate of Oman. The third and final speaker of the forum was Dr Despina Mavromati, Counsel to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, on the subject of mediation and arbitration in sport.

Her presentation followed first-day reports from the IOC's Jerome Poivey on autonomy and from Paquerette Girard Zappelli , Secretary of the IOC Ethics Commission, on good governance.

The forum was held for the first time involving all 45 National Olympic Committees in Asia, rather than with the five zones of the OCA, and Olympic Solidarity Asian Manager Olivier Niamkey was delighted with the feedback and questions from the NOCs.

Summing up the forum, OCA Director General Husain Al Musallam said: "We learned a lot from yesterday and today and it was a very good experience. The topics were very interesting and I think the National Olympic Committees and National Sports Federations must be aware and improve from day to day."

The Olympic Solidarity theme for 2011 will be preparing for the London Olympic Games the following year, and a venue has yet to be fixed.

In the meantime, Niamkey encouraged Asian NOCs to apply to Olympic Solidarity for funding for preparations for the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, this November, and also for the London Scholarship programme which starts two years before the 2012 Games.
