Asian Youth Games 2009 Closing Ceremony




Wednesday 7th July, held at the ballroom of the Raffles City Convention Centre, was the closing ceremony for the first inaugural Asian Youth Games 2009.

It was a night to mark the successful staging of eight sporting days, in ten different sporting discipline, held across various parts of Singapore, in the face of the H1N1 pandemic threat that nearly stole the spotlight.

For the dinner-cum-dance party closing ceremony, teen sensation Amni Musfirah from School of the Arts (SOTA) was the opening act who performed the ballard version of AYG theme song “Asia’s Youth, Our Future” at the Asian Youth Games 2009 Singapore Closing Ceremony.

Some 1,235 athletes aged from 14 to 17 from 43 participating countries, competed in the inaugural Asian Youth Games.

Team Singapore unexpectedly welcomed a return of 30 medal haul, nine of which is gold, and four from the total tally was from athletics.

China as predicted, came out tops with 91 medals in total, 25 of it is gold.

For the next edition of the Asian Youth Games 2013, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has shared that three countries are bidding for it, South Korea, Bahrain and undisclosed nation.
