OCM to set up legal coplaints unit

KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 (Bernama) -- The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) are considering to set up a complaints unit to handle disputes and legal affairs involving national sports associations (NSA), said OCM president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar.

Tunku Imran said the proposed unit would consist arbitration experts including former judges and senior lawyers who are independent from the interest of OCM and NSA.

"The main aspect we have to cover is how this bodies can operate within the guidelines and framework and at the same time to be inde pendent from all parties," he told reporters after attending an OCM Council Meeting here Saturday.

Tunku Imran said the unit would act as an intermediary and hold the power to decide on resolutions on certain inconsequential matters.

However, he said, the Sports Commissioner's Office and Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek would be consulted before a decision was made.

"We have to counter-check with the Sports Commissioner and Sports Minister to implementation the best process in the matter," he said.
