KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- From next month, national athletes will have their say in the Olympic Council of Malaysia's (OCM) executive board following the setting up of an Athletes Commission.
OCM president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar said with the setting up of the six-member commission, two of them will be eligible to sit on the OCM executive board as representatives of athletes.
"We feel it is a very positive step on behalf of the athletes as they would have better participation in our decision making process, as well as understand how OCM works internally and sort issues faced.
"This is very much in line with the policy of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and we are really happy with the development," he told reporters after an OCM board meeting here today.
On the appointment of the Commission's members which will be carried out via election, he said each national association registered with OCM would have a vote to determine who should be elected to the commission.
He said the OCM executive board members had already approved some of the basic criteria's and rules for the Commission, including the election procedures.
The OCM council meeting is scheduled for Feb 7, he said.
