OCM Tightens Rules On NSAs

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- Permanent members of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) today unanimously supported an amendment to Article 9.6 of OCM's constitution to ensure only a single National Sports Association of a particular sport can be affiliated to it (OCM).

OCM honorary-secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said the NSA concerned must also be affiliated to its relevant international federation.

"This (amendment) is necessary to conform to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) requirements and applies to all its 205 affilaites, of which we are one of them," he told reporters after the council's annual general meeting here today.

Sieh said the move would help prevent more than one NSA looking after a particular sport, which often resulted in its development being stunted and also the NSAs involved resorting to arbitration to gain legitimacy.
