KUALA LUMPUR: The National Sports Institute (NSI) are confident they can continue to produce more Malaysian world champions.<br />
<br />
<span id="innity-in-post"></span>Malaysian
sports hit an all-time high last year with eight world champions being
crowned – track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang, diver Cheong Jun Hoong, wushu
exponent Wong Weng Son and para athletes Ziyad Zolkefli and Abdul Latif
Romly, bodybuilder Syarul Azman Mike Mahen and the women’s bowling
sextet Shalin Zulkifli, Sin Li Jane, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman,
Esther Cheah, Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi and Natasha Roslan.<br />
<br />
Of
the eight, only Syarul Azman is not under the NSI-run Podium Programme,
designed to give athletes the cutting edge through sports science.<br />
<br />
And
a confident NSI chairman Datuk Seri Azim Zabidi said things can only
get better after showing state-of-the-art facilities to media personnel
during a get-together session with the Sportswriters Association of
Malaysia (SAM) yesterday.<br />
<br />
<div class="inlineAdMobile">

The media entourage, headed by SAM president Ahmad Khawari Isa,
were shown around the NSI premise which is made up of seven main
sections at the KL Sports City in Bukit Jalil during the hour-long
visit.<br />
<br />
The seven departments comprise Exercise Physiology, Jungle
Gym, Juz Reward Station (post workout health drinks), Sports Massage
Centre, Altitude and Environmental Chamber, Sports Physiotherapy and
Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine and Radiology.<br />
<br />
Azim said Malaysia boasts “the most sophisticated” sports institution in South-East Asia.<br />
“With the facilities that NSI have to offer, I don’t see why we can’t produce more champions than we used to,” said Azim.<br />
<br />
<span><br /></span><div class="pw-hidden-cp">
“Some countries do not have the technologies we possess, they can only feel envy.<br />
“While
we can’t compare ourselves to the likes of Japan and South Korea, we
are definitely the most sophisticated sports institution in this region.<br />
<br />
“And
we’re going to review from time to time and continue to invest in
necessary additions to further enhance what we have at the moment.
Surely, we can only get better.”<br />
In other developments, Azim gave an assurance that NSI have no intention to limit the media’s access to the athletes.<br />
<br />
There
have been claims by journalists of having trouble to speak to athletes
and coaches, especially those under the Podium Programme, and were asked
to get permission from the NSI before they are allowed to so.<br />
<br />
But Azim refuted the allegations, explaining that the NSI merely want to regulate it.<br />
“We
will not stop the media from interviewing the athletes, it’s just that
we hope you can respect the athletes’ tight schedules and give them the
space they need,” said Azim.<br />
“Those who are preparing for the Commonwealth Games, especially, have only three months to prepare.<br />
<br />
“So for the national sports associations, coaches and athletes, their main agenda is to prepare as well as they can.”<br />

KUALA LUMPUR: Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) menegaskan tiada lagi
<br />
Pengerusi
<br />
"Saya tidak nafikan dengan wujudnya ekosistem
ini, sepatutnya kita boleh menjadi juara. Saya tidak lihat kita tidak
boleh menjadi atlet terkemuka sekurang-kurangnya di rantau ini.<br />
<br />
"Kebanyakan negara di Asia Tenggara tidak memiliki kelengkapan
seperti yang kita ada. Jika mereka lihat fasiliti yang kita ada, saya
yakin mereka akan kagum," kata Abdul Azim pada sidang media selepas
Majlis Bersama Persatuan Penulis-Penulis Sukan Malaysia (SAM) di ISN, di
sini hari ini.<br />
<br />
Altitude and Environmental Chamber yang direka
<br />
<br />
"Dua
mengambil masa dua hingga tiga hari sahaja," kata Abdul Azim.<br />

KUALA LUMPUR: Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) menegaskan kontinjen negara
<br />
Pengerusinya,
Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi berkata, jumlah pungutan pingat
<br />
"Memang sepatutnya begitu kerana
<br />
Malah Abdul Azim menegaskan, pihaknya menerusi
ditetapkan. Bermaksud setiap atlet perlu sasarkan pingat emas dan jangan
tumpukan kepada perkara lain," katanya.<br />
<br />
Sukan Komanwel
<br />
Empat tahun lalu di
Glasgow, kontinjen Sukan Komanwel negara berjaya meraih 6 emas, 7 perak

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The fasting month is the right
time to undergo the final phase of training before heading to the
Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scotland, next month.<br />
<br />
National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan
Abd Aziz said the final phase was very important to improve the skills
of athletes because acquiring skills would not require a high level of
stamina.<br />
<br />
"Before the competition stage, athletes must reduce their physical
workouts and increase their focus on skills acquisition or skill
maintenance. We will give them advise and monitor their performance in
this phase," he told Bernama after attending a programme 'Ruang Bicara'
to speak on the future of Malaysian sports at Wisma Bernama.<br />
<br />
Dr Ramlan said among elements that athletes must undergo before the
Commonwealth Games is medical test, physiology tests, diet, moral
support, and sports analysis.<br />
<br />
Asked if weather conditions can affect their training or competition,
Dr Ramlan said weather conditions would not affect the training of
athletes and the NSI would take all the necessary steps to ensure such
activities are carried out indoors.<br />

KUALA LUMPUR: There is a proposal for the Badminton Association of
Malaysia (BAM) to reward the unsung personnel behind Malaysia’s strong
performances at the Thomas Cup Finals in New Delhi recently.<br />
<br />
Malaysia’s team led by world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei went down fighting to
Japan 2-3 in a six-hour thrilling final tie on May 25 - the final was
the nation’s first in 12 years.<br />
<br />
For finishing as the runners-up, Chong Wei and every other player in the
team - Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren, Goh Soon Huat, Tan Boon Heong-Hoon
Thien How, Tan Wee Kiong-Goh V Shem and Chan Peng Soon, is entitled to
receive RM25,000 each under the national body’s incentive scheme.<br />
<br />
On Monday, deputy president Datuk Norza Zakaria said that he had
suggested that BAM appreciate all the hard work put in by the coaches
and National Sports Institute (NSI) too during the Finals.<br />
<br />
Currently, there is no special incentive scheme for the coaches and
Norza feels that the support staff deserve a pat on the back for their
part in the success of the team.<br />
<br />
“I was there (in New Delhi) throughout the competition and I saw all the
activities behind the scenes. I saw how the coaches rallied behind all
the players and the sacrifices made in preparing the team. I also saw
the dedication shown by the NSI team,” said Norza.<br />
<br />
“They worked together as a team and it was this unity that saw our team
going all the way to the final. I am so proud of the whole group. They
were not expected to go far but they defied the odds.<br />
<br />
“I have put forward this idea to our president (Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel
Tengku Ariff) and hopefully, the national body will look into this,” he
added.<br />
<br />
The coaches with the men’s team were singles chief coach Rashid Sidek,
Tey Seu Bock (men’s singles), Pang Cheh Chang (men’s doubles) and Jeremy
Gan (men’s doubles), while <b><i>the NSI team consisted of Jerry Gan
(performance analyst), Fadzil Salleh and Sandra Fiedler
(physiotherapists), Chai Wen Jin (nutritionist), How Peck Ngor

<div class="story">
WE ALL know that athletes have a short career. It can be shorter still if they were to suffer a serious injury.<br />
<br />
We also know that injuries are part and parcel of an athlete’s career.<br />
<br />
So, what do they do if they get injured? And what happens if the injury is serious enough to warrant surgery?<br />
<br />
Do they go under the knife? Do they just leave it be and hope it will
heal (in time)? Or do they try alternative healing - say, traditional
treatment?<br />
<br />
Many top athletes have undergone surgeries and returned stronger. But
it’s also true that some never quite recaptured their form of old after
returning from the operating theatre.<br />
<br />
So, it doesn’t really surprise me to read about badminton mixed
doubles ace Goh Liu Ying’s uncertainty about going under the knife for
her knee injury.<br />
<br />
I don’t know how serious her injury is. But if someone of authority
like National Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk
Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz has recommended her to go for surgery, then I
guess it must be quite serious.<br />
<br />
I can understand her apprehension. She has, after all, forged a
formidable partnership with Chan Peng Soon and any surgery will see her
being ruled out of action for between four and eight months.<br />
<br />
That’s an eternity for athletes these days. And Liu Ying is aware
that it could even mark the end of her partnership with Peng Soon.<br />
<br />
Another worry for Liu Ying is that there are three major tournaments
coming up this year - the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and World
Championships.<br />
<br />
Now, there is no guarantee that the surgery will be 100% risk-free. No surgery is, for that matter.<br />
Dr Ramlan raised a pertinent point when he said that the longer she
puts off the inevitable, the worse it would become. As it is, Liu Ying
has been living with the nagging injury since 2008.<br />
<br />
Liu Ying must understand that her healing process involves two parties - the surgeon and herself.<br />
Yes, the surgeon can repair her knee on the operating table. But the
real - and hard - work comes when she leaves the operating theatre.<br />
<br />
That’s when all the values and virtues she has learned as an athlete -
discipline, dedication, determination and perseverance - will come into
play. She will need all those values - and more - when she begins her
rehabilitation programme.<br />
<br />
I, for one, can vouch for that as I have gone under the knife five
times (six including for appendicitis). Three of those surgeries were
for my right knee (torn anterior cruciate ligament) and two for my right
shoulder (dislocated). And I’m now into half-marathons. So, obviously
the surgery worked for me.<br />
<br />
Rehabilitation can be a long and tedious programme. It’s repetitive. It’s boring. And it’s painful.<br />
You need to be strong - physically and mentally - and equally determined to do your rehab properly and intensively.<br />
<br />
It’s basically a psychological battle - mind over matter, if you would.<br />
But do it, you must. There will be days when you feel like just
quitting, especially as you continue doing the basic exercises day in,
day out.<br />
<br />
But Liu Ying is still young, just 24. She is fit and strong (she must
be if she has been playing on despite the injury). So, I am sure she
will be able to handle the rehabilitation.<br />
<br />
The one motivating force for her will surely be the desire to continue playing at the top level.<br />
The other thing Liu Ying must remember is that medical science has improved by leaps and bounds.<br />
When I went for my first surgery, it was done the old way - where
they basically cut open your knee to replace the ligament. I only began
my rehab one month after surgery.<br />
<br />
Nowadays, they use the keyhole method. It is minimally invasive,
doesn’t leave huge scars and heals faster. And you begin your rehab the
very next day!<br />
<br />
But the decision is still Liu Ying’s. Modern or traditional? It’s her call.<br />
<br />
<i>Sports Editor R. Manogaran is truly in awe of the athletes who
overcame their injuries to rise to the top of their game. They epitomise
everything that sport stands for - courage, determination, dedication,
perseverance, competitiveness and self-belief.</i><br />

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Juniors have been told to toe the line
when the team compete in the Junior World Cup, which starts in New Delhi
on Friday.<br />
<br />
Team manager Mirnawan Nawawi said the players must follow instructions at all times.<br />
<br />
“It does not matter if they are on the pitch or off it. Discipline in
following instructions is essential. Off the field, what they eat and
how they act in avoiding injuries is also crucial. On the pitch, they
need to follow the plan the coaches come up with and not let their guard
down at any stage.<br />
<br />
“Many people say we have a good team and that we should do well.
There is no doubt about the potential of the players selected but they
must not take anything for granted,” said Mirnawan.<br />
The players were in high spirit as they left for New Delhi Sunday
morning. The team will play a friendly with Germany on Tuesday.<br />
<br />
“We are happy with the one match against the Germans. After all, we
have completed our preparations and the only thing that needs to be
addressed is to get acclimatised to the weather conditions in New Delhi.<br />
<br />
“As we have five days before the opening tie, I believe there is
ample time for the players to adapt to the conditions,” said Mirnawan.<br />
<br />
Besides Minarwan, the team is packed with former internationals, like
coach K. Dharmaraj and assistant coaches Nor Azlan Bakar and K.
Gobinathan.<br />
<br />
Two special coaches – 1MAS director Lim Chiow Chuan and penalty corner specialist Len Aiyappa – will also be in New Delhi.<br />
<br />
Also in the squad are team doctor Dr Rozaiman Ebrahim, physio Razana
Abdul Raffar (ISN), video analysis Musrizal Muzamin (ISN), sports dietitian Mohd
Qusyairy Ajmain Mohd Amin (ISN), mental trainer Mohd Sallehin Abdul Jalil (ISN) and
masseur Mohd Aizul (ISN).<br />
<br />
“We have a complete team of experts and the players will be given all
the help to stay calm before the start of every match,” said Mirnawan.<br />
<br />
Malaysia will begin their Group D campaign against New Zealand on
Friday. The other teams in the group are South Africa and England.<br />

KUALA LUMPUR - Pengarah Projek Pembangunan
Program Bola Sepak Negara, Lim Teong Kim memberi gambaran awal tentang
<br />
2017.<br />
<br />
"Pelan kami sekarang ini adalah membahagikan kepada lima zon, utara,
selatan, timur dan barat serta Sabah, Sarawak bagaimanapun ia bergantung
kepada perkembangan pusat pembangunan di setiap zon serta tenaga kerja
yang ramai perlu digunakan," katanya selepas Mesyuarat Jawatankuasa
Pembangunan Program Bola Sepak Negara di Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN)
semalam.<br />
<br />
dititikberatkan tetapi jurulatih haruslah mempunyai ilmu bola sepak
sebaik mungkin.<br />
"Pembangunan dan pembelajaran jurulatih adalah kekurangan kita sekarang ini dalam mendidik pemain di peringkat remaja.<br />
<br />
"Ia amat berbeza jika hendak dibandingkan dengan corak latihan orang
dewasa kerana jika salah kita mungkin akan memusnahkan seseorang pemain
remaja itu dengan mudah sekali baik dari fizikal mahupun mental.<br />
<br />
"Sekarang ini kita hanya memiliki empat pendidik jurulatih dan masih
lagi ingin menambah bilangannya untuk memperkembangkan lagi projek ini.<br />
<br />
"Saya juga memerlukan bahagian pencari bakat serta jurulatih
ketahanan, barulah semuanya lengkap.
<br />
<br />
"Apa yang penting ialah infrastruktur dalam pembangunan bola sepak,
sekarang kami juga untuk menaiktaraf padang bola sepak sekolah di
seluruh negara.<br />
<br />
"Sudah tentu berbeza dengan Jerman yang sudah mempunya infrastruktur,
mereka cuma perlu menumpukan perhatian kepada jurulatih dan pemain
sahaja," katanya.<br />

A PUBLIC-private partnership on a sports-focused
community project was launched recently to benefit the residents of
Taman Medan.<br />
<br />
The project is a joint effort by Sunway Group, the
Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) — Selangor Chapter, the
Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) in partnership with National Sports
Institute (ISN) and the Selangor Department of National Unity and
Integration (DNUI).<br />
<br />
The partnership was set up to promote sports as a tool for development and peace.<br />
The project will be carried out in three phases spanning across two years, starting this month until December 2015.<br />
<br />
This pilot project will set the parameters for a subsequent national roll-out.<br />
The first phase of the delivery programme will introduce karate to the
youth where selected ones will be coached to develop their skills. They
will also attend a four-day holiday camp.<br />
<br />
Coaching sessions will be carried out for 24 months, consisting of 192 sessions, taking up 384 hours.<br />
During the training, the youth will undergo a baseline assessment which
includes evaluation for psychological skill, anthropometry, motor
skills, as well as basic strengths and aerobic assessment.<br />
The
youth will be monitored for their progress, receive sports specific
training, and undergo designer psychology sports training.<br />
<br />
Sunway
Group corporate advisor Tan Sri Dr Ramon Navaratnam said the project
was a powerful strategy for guiding youth in the right direction.<br />
<br />
“We believe this project will create a huge impact in building a
united community, while simultaneously creating economic prosperity
which will aid in driving us towards becoming a high-income nation.<br />
<br />
“The project will amplify the impact of our corporate responsibility
efforts outlined under our Community Aid, Reach out and Enrichment
(C.A.R.E.) Pillar,” he said.<br />
<br />
To kick-start the programme, about
40 youth of Taman Medan aged between nine and 14 will be enrolled into
an extensive, professional, scientific- structured karate course.<br />

KUALA LUMPUR: Athletes bound for the SEA Games in Myanmar next month
have been advised to stay away from doping or face the consequences.<br />
<br />
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Sunday that athletes
should be wary of offers to use drugs and to stay away at all cost.<br />
<br />
“Do not succumb to pressure to take any supplement. If you are under
pressure to take drugs, report it immediately to the sports council.<br />
<br />
He asked them to check with the National Sports Institute (ISN) and
the Malaysian Anti-Doping Agency (Adamas) before taking vitamins and
food supplements.<br />
<br />
According to him, national athletes need to know the content of
vitamins or food supplements given by coaches and sports officials to
avoid getting involved in doping problems in Myanmar as happened in the
Palembang SEA Games in 2011.<br />
<br />
“Find out what it is. Do not just accept what is given to you,” he said after participating in the Batik Fun Walk here Sunday.<br />
<br />
He said the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) would not compromise with
any athlete found guilty of using drugs and they would face stiff
punishment.<br />
<br />
"At the WADA conference recently in South Africa, they decided to
impose heavier punishment on errant athletes who take drugs to enhance
their performance at sports meets.<br />
<br />
"So my advice to all athletes going to the SEA Games to view the
development seriously ...the world body is meting out heavier and higher
penalties for anti-doping violations," he told a press conference.<br />
<br />
A total 833 Malaysian athletes and officials will be participating in
29 of 33 events of the biennial games in Yangon, Naypyitaw, Mandalay
and Ngwe Saung from Dec 11 to 22.<br />

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 Nov (Bernama) -- Atlet negara yang akan menggalas
cabaran ke temasya Sukan SEA Myanmar bulan depan diingatkan merujuk
kepada Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) dan Agensi Anti-Doping Malaysia
(Adamas) sebelum mengambil vitamin atau makanan tambahan.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
"Pada persidangan WADA baru-baru ini di Afrika Selatan, mereka
memutuskan hukuman lebih berat akan dikenakan kepada atlet yang didapati
bersalah dari segi penggunaan bahan-bahan dadah yang boleh
memberangsangkan prestasi mereka dalam sesuatu temasya sukan.<br />
<br />
"Jadi nasihat saya pada atlet yang akan ke Sukan SEA supaya melihat
perkembangan ini dengan serius...badan dunia sendiri meletakkan hukuman
yang lebih besar dan tinggi terhadap kesalahan anti-doping," katanya
dalam sidang media Batik Fun Walk 2013 di Pusat Pelancongan Malaysia
(Matic) di sini, Ahad.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
acara angkat berat 105kg, Firdaus Abdul Razak disahkan positif

KARATE exponent R. Puvaneswaran’s face lights up when the conversation revolves around the National Sports Institute (NSI).<br />
<br />
The NSI, located in Bukit Jalil, is the place all local athletes head to for treatment when they have an injury.<br />
<br />
Without NSI’s care and treatment, Puvaneswaran feels he would not
have brought back an Asian Games gold medal from Guangzhou in 2010.<br />
<br />
It was his second Asian Games gold medal after bagging the first in
Busan eight years earlier. Puvaneswaran, 38, who now serves as a coach,
explains why national athletes should make use of the facilities
available at the NSI.<br />
<br />
“It was in June that year when I went for an Achilles heel surgery.
The doctor told me that I would be out of action for three months but I
managed to return to training after just one month, thanks to the NSI.<br />
<br />
“By coming in to the NSI early, I was able to put myself back in the
right frame to go for the Asian Games and do my best as that was the
most important assignment for us that year.<br />
<br />
“I wanted to retire from the sport on a high and I was happy I could
do it. I would not have been able to do this without NSI's help in terms
of their sports science knowledge. It was not just for the fact that I
was mentally tough but NSI also provided the right rehabilitation
programme to suit my age. <br />
“They actually don't just provide treatment for injuries; they also
cater to preparations and getting athletes to peak at certain
competitions.<br />
<br />
“The biomechanics department corrects our mistakes and improves our
skill movements,” says Puvaneswaran, who urges aspiring national
athletes to embrace sports science.<br />
<br />
“Not everyone can be absorbed into the national elite squad and maintain their place. <br />
“It involves intensive training and you need to recover well.
Sometimes you get yourself injured in the process if you don’t do it
properly and this is where the NSI experts come in.”<br />
<br />
He feels there is no reason for athletes not to seek NSI's
assistance, unless they are not aware of the facilities or they choose
to be ignorant.<br />
“Training and rest are not enough unless done with the right
methodology,” says Puvaneswaran, who is the first Malaysian karate
exponent to win gold at the World Cup.<br />

Also full of praise and appreciative of the NSI is 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and track cyclist Josiah Ng.<br />
<br />
He is part of the elite squad of cyclists who have been based in
Melbourne for the past six years, ever since track cycling was first
identified as one of the targeted sports under the Olympics programme. <br />
Much to the team's relief, the NSI have been sending support
personnel there to help out with the cyclists' daily training and
preparations for competitions.<br />
<br />
“NSI have been helping us out quite a bit. We have a full-time NSI
staff member who is based with us in Melbourne. The data that she
collects has really useful,” says Josiah.<br />
<br />
London Olympic bronze medallist platform diver Pandelela Rinong also
recalls how NSI helped her cope with training and competitions.<br />
<br />
“I have had to cope with back and knee injuries for some time. NSI
sent medical personnel to accompany us for major championships. For
example, we had one with us for the World Championships in Barcelona in
July. It is very useful having NSI personnel there. There is always a
doctor on attendance at the championships but they may not be aware of
the background of our medical condition,” says Pandelela, who partnered
Leong Mun Yee to take a prized bronze medal in Barcelona.<br />
<br />
<b>Reasonable expectations</b><br />
<br />
While the NSI can help athletes, miracles are not the order of the day.<br />
<br />
NSI were perhaps only right when they advised Malaysian Moto3 rider
Zulfahmi Khairuddin not to get back into action too quickly last month.<br />
<br />
Zulfahmi underwent surgery on his right wrist after crashing at the
Aragon Grand Prix two weeks before the Malaysian round in Sepang on Oct
13.<br />
<br />
<img alt="Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin being examined by Dr Kamarul Hashimy Hussein at the National Sports Institute last month." src="http://www.thestar.com.my/%7E/media/Images/TSOL/Photos-Upload/Sports%20n%20Recreation/2013/11/11/Zulfahmi%20Khairuddin.ashx" style="height: 342px; width: 460px;" />
<br />
<div class="inline-caption">

<div class="inline-caption">
</div>
The rider went to the NSI to seek medical advice and their chief
executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz had said that he should
focus on the recovery rather than meeting the deadline to compete in the
home GP.<br />
<br />
“He underwent surgery on Tuesday and he’s hoping for recovery by next weekend. Do you think that’s a reasonable expectation?<br />
<br />
“I wouldn’t put it as a reasonable expectation.<br />
<br />
“From the medical point of view, the NSI would prefer to see the
athlete fully recovered before continuing competing as he may be
adversely affected if the injuries are not fully healed.<br />
“But, being a young athlete, it is only normal for him to hope to heal quicker,” said Ramlan at that time.<br />
<br />
Zulfahmi was eager to race in Sepang but was forced to withdraw on
the morning of the race after the internal fixations on his wrist gave
way.<br />
<br />
<b>Room for improvement</b><br />
<br />
The NSI are aware that there is always room for improvement, especially in a field where the technology is rapidly changing.<br />
<br />
The good thing is that the NSI is also eager to learn and improve.<br />
Last month, the NSI sent six therapists and sports science experts to
the Malaysian GP, mainly to provide a comprehensive treatment for
Zulfahmi and the other wildcard riders.<br />
<br />
“They also wanted to conduct research to understand the nature of
motorsports, injuries related to motorsports and treatment for such
injuries.<br />
<br />
“They fully understand now and ensure that a better programme will be
in place if any of our national MotoGP riders face the same situation
in the future,” said Datuk Razlan Ahmad Razali, Sepang International
Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer, last month.<br />
<br />
As more and more athletes go to the NSI for help with injuries and
fitness, understandably having a sufficient number of qualified experts
will be an issue.<br />
<br />
The shortage of medically-qualified staff in the past meant that
masseurs and physiologists were sent to assist national athletes for
overseas competitions instead of medical officers and dieticians. <br />
Wushu exponent Ng Say Yoke went through some nervous moments last
year after picking up an ankle injury which forced him to lay off
training for a year.<br />
<br />
“My ankle did not heal sufficiently as it was not properly treated
and I had to go for longer rehab. Maybe there were not enough qualified
doctors to accompany us for major tournaments but I am thankful the
injury was addressed before it became serious,” says Say Yoke, who took
the silver in men’s changquan at the recent World Wushu Championships in
Kuala Lumpur.<br />
<br />
<b>Conclusion</b><br />
<br />
It is also important for athletes to be mindful of the NSI's role.<br />
<br />
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaludin hit the nail on the head
when he urged athletes not to view the NSI as a clinic but as a
comprehensive physical and mental preparation centre.<br />
But to be able to serve efficiently, NSI also need to upgrade the
training for their sports science practitioners as well as the
facilities as the field evolves.<br />
<br />
Currently, NSI has an annual allocation of RM30mil and that does not
include the RM17mil set aside for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro programme over
four years. Whether that is enough remains to be seen.<br />
Ultimately, the objective of the NSI is to help our athletes achieve
glory for the country, and that can only happen if we are able to give
them the best treatment and sports science guidance.<br />
<br />
The NSI is very much aware of that.<br />
<br />
In a recent interview with StarSport, Dr Ramlan aptly summed up NSI's
role: “We want to get the best Malaysian experts to do the work – or
else we will look outside.<br />
<br />
“Our aim is straightforward – we need a better culture. By that, I
mean having the best people working in the best working environment and
executing the plans in the best possible way.”<br />

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Cooperation between the National Sports
Institute (NSI) and the National Sports Council (NSC) in sports science
through its satellite centres nationwide can benefit athletes.<br />
<br />
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said as sports science was
instrumental in producing outstanding athletes, it should be emphasised
among athletes starting at the grassroots level.<br />
<br />
"The elements of science, medicine and sports technology provided by the
NSI, world-class athletes could be produced to enhance the image of the
country in sports internationally," he said at the signing of a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the NSI and the NSC from
various states here Thursday.<br />
<br />
He said through the NSI-NSC cooperation, duties and responsibilities of
both parties became clearer and more systematic, apart from creating
evidence-based athlete training.<br />
<br />
Efforts to produce local experts also have to be implemented through a comprehensive programme, he added.<br />
<br />
The MoU was signed between NSI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Ramlan
Abdul Aziz and NSC state directors with the exception of that of Melaka
and Sabah who would pen it later.<br />
<br />
To date, the NSI has 11 satellite centres in 10 states and another at
Sekolah Sukan Tengku Mahkota Ismail, Johor which provides sports science
services in the field of sports psychology, adapted physical education,
exercise physiology and sports nutrition.<br /></div>

<div class="story">
PUTRAJAYA: It was a significant day for the
National Sports Institute (NSI), after its chief operating officer Datuk
Dr Ramlan Aziz signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 12 State
Sports Councils (SSCs) at the Youth and Sports Ministry on Thursday.<br />
<br />
The MoU marks the start of a more structured way of enforcing sports
science approaches in all states - with the ultimate goal of
strengthening the grassroots programme.<br />
<br />
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who witnessed the MoU
signing, tasked all the states with embracing sports science as a tool
to improve the standard of state athletes.<br />
<br />
“With this working understanding between NSI and the SSCs, the NSI
will now be able to extend their expertise in sports science to all the
states. It is the states’ responsibility to train and identify talent at
state level and now, they will have the sports science support to do
so,” said Khairy.<br />
<br />
The move is also expected to see the gradual increase in work opportunities for sports science experts in the states.<br />
<br />
Except for Sabah and Malacca, all other states signed the MoU. Sabah
and Malacca are expected to join the partnership later after they
finalise the venue details for their centres.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Khairy said that the issue regarding the selection of high
jumper Lee Hup Wei and 400m hurdler Noraseela Khalid for the Myanmar
SEA Games squad has been resolved.<br />
<br />
The issue arose when Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF) did not
want to send Hup Wei and Noraseela because they did not meet the Games’
qualifying mark for their respective sports, but the National Sports
Council (NSC) proposed they be included based on past excellence.<br />
<br />
“Noraseela has informed us that she is not competing. As for Hup Wei,
the NSC gave him a chance to prove himself at the Pahang Open but he
chose not to attend the tournament. So, both are not going for the
Games,” he said.<br />
<br />
Khairy informed that he has another matter to resolve - a velodrome for the national cyclists.<br />
With the velodrome in Cheras being abolished by next month and the
Class 1 velodrome in Nilai being completed only in two to three years’
time, the national cyclists have nowhere to train.<br />
<br />
“I met up with the officials from the Malaysian National Cycling
Federation (MNCF). Without the velodrome in Cheras, the cyclists will
not have a training ground. I will now look at a training velodrome in
Kuala Lumpur for the cyclists,” he added.<br />

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">STATE athletes will gain the same access to sport science services
and knowledge as national athletes following the signing of a memorandum
of understanding between the National Sports Institute (NSI) and State
Sports Councils in Putrajaya yesterday.</span></span></h2>
The agreement formalises and expands the structure which currently
exists between the NSI's satellite centres and the State Sports
Councils.<br />
<br />
This will allow a systematic approach to sport science services,
research and sports medicine being made available to state-based
athletes.<br />
<br />
Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said national athletes will no longer
be the sole beneficiary of the NSI's expertise in sport science with
the signing of this agreement.<br />
<br />
"This co-operation agreement between NSI and the State Sports Councils
will be more structured and allow the expertise at NSI to be made
available to state athletes," said Khairy after witnessing the signing
ceremony in Putrajaya yesterday.<br />
<br />
"We hope the states will take sport science seriously as it is an
important aspect in the development and education of athletes. NSI
should no longer just be seen as a sports clinic where athletes go to
have their injuries treated.<br />
<br />
"NSI has become more comprehensive and is involved in the conditioning and psychological preparation of athletes as well."<br />
<br />
Among the objectives of the memorandum are creating a culture of
evidence-based training programme for athletes, streamlining the coach
and athlete education programmes, cooperatng in talent identification at
state level and follow-up efforts, ensuring states receive the latest
information in sport science and medicine and strengthening the
relationship between NSI in Bukit Jalil and with its satellite centres.<br />
<br />
NSI set up its first satellite centres in 2007 and the number has since
grown to 11 nationwide, including one at the Sultan Tunku Ismail
Mahkota Sports School in Bandar Penawar with 73 staff.<br />
"Sport science facilities and expertise must reach every young athlete
across the country," said Khairy in his speech. "Action must be taken
through a comprehensive plan to ensure the availability of specialists
to the public.<br />
<br />
"The needs of sport science and NSI's ability to fulfil this need has
to improve from time to time. Exposure to sport science for our young
athletes must take place immediately and no longer be about talking and
planning only."<br />

NATIONAL Sports Institute (NSI) chief executive
officer (CEO) <b>Dato' Dr Ramlan Aziz </b>believes that athletes should know
about sports science from a young age. Unfortunately, that is not the
case. Hence, he has taken on the challenge to educate and empower
athletes about sports science. Here, he tells StarsSport’s RAJES PAUL
just how he intends to do that.<br />
<br />
<strong>Q: One of the main challenges faced by the NSI is the athletes’ lack of knowledge about sports science. Why?</strong><br />
<br />
A: NSI offer services to national athletes. We attend to them when
they come to us – usually they are in their 20s. Most of the time, we
have to re-educate them. We spend a lot of time instilling the right
attitude in embracing sports science approaches.<br />
<br />
<div class="embeded-image">
<img alt="Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz : 'We have to explain to them about fitness testing, conditioning, fitness development, correct mental approaches and training, and different aspects of sports science that can lead to their success.'" src="http://www.thestar.com.my/%7E/media/Images/TSOL/Photos-Upload/Sports%20n%20Recreation/2013/10/29/dr%20ramlan%20aziz.ashx" style="height: 577px; width: 460px;" />
<div class="inline-caption">
Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz : 'We have to explain
to them about fitness testing, conditioning, fitness development,
correct mental approaches and training, and different aspects of sports
science that can lead to their success.'</div>
</div>
We have to explain to them about fitne<br />
ss testing, conditioning,
fitness development, correct mental approaches and training, and
different aspects of sports science that can lead to their success. It
is like having a bunch of people learning to ride the bike for the first
time. Initially, it was a big challenge for us.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>Q: What is the ideal age to educate an athlete on sports science?</strong><br />
A: If one can start understanding it before 10 years old, that would
be great. South Korea, Japan and even Thailand are more successful
because their athletes are exposed to sports science at an early age.
They are exposed to physical education – the real sense of teaching – at
a young age and that gives them a good foundation. When they move up to
the elite squad, they are able to withstand higher intensity trainings.
Our athletes have to start from the basics again.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>Q: Have the NSI done anything to overcome this?</strong><br />
A: When I first became involved in the NSI in 1992, the lack of
education for athletes on sports science was evident and a huge
challenge. Fortunately, students at the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS)
and Bandar Penawar now study physical education.<br />
<br />
The NSI have been looking into various pilot projects. School is the
ideal place to get the masses involved and exposed to sports science. We
are now going big on screening Year One pupils (seven years old) to
gauge their potential under our Talent Identification Programme. This is
the right juncture to start.<br />
<br />
For some sports, like gymnastics and track and field, the approach
could start earlier. We are working closely with the Education Ministry
(MoE) on this. Most sports will benefit from general screening. It can
lead to some pupils being selected for specific programmes.<br />
<br />
<strong>Q: What would be the ideal situation?</strong><br />
A: The MoE’s move to introduce the “one child one sport” plan is a
good start. I would go one step further and encourage all schools to
have a “sports-mover” within a school. Every school can have a sports
secretary who will take on a good idea and execute it effectively. He
can equip physical education teachers so that they can educate the young
ones and expose them early to sports science. Coaches at this level
should be educated too.<br />
<br />
Education on sports science should not only be directed at the
students, teachers or coaches. Parents are also key people who can make a
difference. Engaging parents through sports activities and educating
them on many aspects of sports science would be the way to go.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>Q: What are the significant changes you have made in the NSI?</strong><br />
A: Many experts and key people have come and gone. We engaged foreign
consultants to conduct an external review in 1999, which I think, was
great and really put the NSI on the right track. In 1999, we had a great
influx of foreign experts to transfer their knowledge to locals. It
took time as not many were receptive. One key turning point for the NSI
was the formation of the integrated service system, which eventually saw
the birth of HPT (High Performance Team). Now, our approach is more
specialised, with every sport having a team to look after.<br />
<br />
In 2001, Malaysia won 111 gold medals at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
We played quite a significant role in this. To us, it was the time when
we realised our worth. It gave us a lot of confidence to continue with
our work. We knew we were on the right track.<br />
<br />
<strong>Q: What are your significant accomplishments?</strong><br />
A: I have been involved in hockey for a great deal of time and there
has been a good working relationship with them. They were one of the
early groups to embrace sports science. I will also not forget the
collaboration with our two physiotherapists to help world No. 1 shuttler
Lee Chong Wei recover from his foot injury within 65 days. Chong Wei
then went on to win a silver medal at the London Olympic Games. It was a
success story of rehabilitation.<br />
<br />
Despite my busy schedule, I’ve been able to keep my family together.
If not for their support, it would have been tough. I used to travel a
lot – sometimes I’m away every two weeks in a month. I remember taking
my five children and wife for hockey matches to make up for lost time.
My wife is a plastic surgeon and, sometimes, during matches, she would
stitch their injuries. She has treated players like Gary Fidelis and K.
Gobinathan – one hardly can see their scars. At least, she was happy to
be there and also see her husband working and not galavanting (he
laughs).</div>
<div class="story">
</div>
<div class="story">
</div>
<div class="story">
<img alt="One of the machines at the National Sports Institute used for rehabilitation." height="266" src="http://www.thestar.com.my/%7E/media/Images/TSOL/Photos-Upload/Sports%20n%20Recreation/2013/10/29/nsi%20rehabilitation.ashx?w=620&h=413&crop=1&" width="400" /></div>
<div class="story">
<i><br /></i><div class="caption">
<i>
One of the machines at the National Sports Institute used for rehabilitation.</i></div>
<br />
<br />
<strong>Q: Where is the NSI heading now?</strong><br />
A: We are still in the pioneering mode – it’s very much like crossing
the bridge while building it ... while other countries have moved
forward. I know that we cannot afford to do the same thing and expect
different results. In the past, our focus was on developing ways to
provide the best services for our athletes under the national programme.
Now, we want to go from doing the best we can to doing the best
possible.<br />
<br />
We are looking at every optimum human and finance resource. We want
to get the best Malaysian experts to do the work – or else we will look
outside. We want to help the athletes win gold medals at the Olympic
Games, World Championships, etc. What we want to achieve is not rocket
science although we are dealing with scientific approaches. Our aim is
straightforward – we need a better culture. By that, I mean having the
best people working in the best working environment and executing the
plans in the best possible way.</div>

<strong>The National Sports Institute is pushing our athletes further with innovative and smart technology. </strong><br />
<br />
<br />
With the 2016 Summer Olympics only three years away, the National
Sports Institute (NIS) is taking the training of its athletes up a notch
with the use of new hardware and software. <br />
In the past, training took place mostly outdoors but with the
advancement of technology, sports scientists and coaches have found new
ways to improve our national athletes’ performance even before stepping
out into the field.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>Tuning and tech</strong><br />
<br />
Badminton, archery, cycling and diving have been identified as the
main sports Malaysia needs to excel in the next Olympics and the NIS is
working on a few technologies to give our sportsmen an edge.<br />
<br />
For Malaysia’s most popular sport, badminton, the NIS uses software developed in-house called <em>Bstat </em>which uses cameras to monitor the performance of players.<br />
The development of the software began after the conclusion of the
Beijing Olympics in 2008 and was completed in time for the London
Olympics in 2012.<br />
<br />
The man behind <em>Bstat</em> is sports technology research
engineer Kokum Weeratunga. He says what makes his software unique is
that unlike other analytic programs in the market, <em>Bstat </em>was developed solely for badminton. This has allowed him to optimise the software to produce faster and more detailed results.<br />
<br />
The software takes into account every aspect of the game and can
monitor both the player and his or her opponent’s style of play. It can
do this from a video recording or even televised games.<br />
“Using the data from <em>Bstat</em> we can identify ‘hot spots’
around the court where the player or opponent likes to target the
shuttlecock. This allows coaches to form strategies before each match,”
said Kokum.<br />
<br />
During the preparations for the London Olympics, for instance, the
team would upload past games of opponents like China’s national
shuttler, Lin Dan from as far back as 2008 to study in detail the
evolution of his style of play.<br />
<br />
Kokum takes personal pride in the fact that the software has aided
Malaysian shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei in improving his game from the
gathered data.<br />
<br />
He is currently working on <em>Bstat’s </em>successor which will have a different name and is expected to be ready in time for the Olympics in Rio.<br />
<br />
“The next iteration of the software will have more cutting edge features that will keep us ahead of the game,” he said.<br />
<br />
The cameras also have other uses. Syed Faris, the head of research
at NIS, said the institute has developed a wireless video transmission
system to give direct feedback in real-time to coaches during games.<br />
<br />
Using multiple cameras mounted at high vantage points, coaches get a
bird’s-eye view of the game, giving them a better idea of what is going
on to help them make informed tactical decisions on the fly.<br />
<br />
The system also works for other games such as football, badminton and hockey.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>Monitoring athletes</strong><br />
<br />
Training is just one of the many aspects that NIS is focusing on.
One of the other areas that gets a lot of attention is the general
health of the athletes.<br />
<br />
Thanks to advancements in technology it is now possible to track the physical activity of an athlete even when they sleep.<br />
<br />
<div class="embeded-image">
<img alt="Sean Sturgess demonstrates how athletes train at the NIS gym." height="397" src="http://www.thestar.com.my/%7E/media/Images/TSOL/Photos-Gallery/Intech/2013/10/28/bytz_kw_p2h_2810.ashx?h=397&w=600" width="600" />
<div class="inline-caption">
May the force be with you: Sean Sturgess

resistance helps build up speed and endurance.</div>
<div class="inline-caption">
</div>
</div>
Sean Sturgess, head of the high performance team at the NSI, said,
“We are constantly monitoring athletes from the minute they go to bed
and right up to the moment they wake up the next morning.”<br />
“Sleep plays a very important part in the recovery process, as the
body will be adapting to the training it goes through during the day.”<br />
<br />
And it doesn’t take fancy gadgets — Sturgess says just about any
smartphone can be paired with a sensor and app to monitor the quality
of sleep, including any movements.<br />
“Coaches would then be able to know when is it a good day to push athletes more or to hold back due to fatigue,” said Sturgess.<br />
<br />
Dr Yeo Wee Kian, director of research and innovation at NSI, said the institute even analyses the saliva of athletes.<br />
<br />
“It is a very stringent process. Athletes have to wake up early in
the morning at 6am and they are not allowed to brush their teeth or
rinse their mouth before taking a sample,” he said.<br />
The saliva is then taken to a lab and examined in detail to
determine the athletes’ testosterone and other hormones which helps
sports scientists to gauge the speed of recovery.<br />
<br />
“It is important to ensure that the athletes are in tip-top
condition before a game. The tests will show us if they are at risk of
falling sick which would allow us to recommend preventive measures,”
said Yeo.<br />
<br />
The NSI has also developed an app called <em>Activ8 </em>which
tracks an athlete’s level of physical activity. Initially it was created
for internal use among the NSI staff but the institute realised its
potential and repurposed it for its sportsmen.<br />
<br />
Every hour the app asks for feedback and the athlete has to fill up
a questionnaire on what form of activity they are doing at that moment.
This helps track the physical activity of the player for an entire
day.<br />
<br />
The information collected is then stored in a database that can be
used to customise the training to strategically target the strengths
and weaknesses of each athlete and create the most efficient training
plan.<br />
<br />
<br />
<strong>Road to recovery </strong><br />
<br />
In sports injury is unavoidable no matter how careful the athlete or
trainer is. Getting injured athletes back on their feet in the shortest
time can be quite a challenge.<br />
<br />
Sports therapist Joerg Teichmann is a big proponent of using modern sports technology to treat players and he showed <em>Bytz </em>some
of the machines he uses in his work. This includes a vibration platform
which is a machine that looks similar to an exercise vibration machine
that you’ll see in most gyms.<br />
<br />
<div class="embeded-image">
<img alt="On track to recovery: Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) conditioning trainer Rasto Bozik demonstrates how athletes would stand on the machine during rehabilitation." height="350" src="http://www.thestar.com.my/%7E/media/Images/TSOL/Photos-Gallery/Intech/2013/10/28/bytz_kw_p3_2810.ashx?h=350&w=600" width="600" />
<div class="inline-caption">
Shake it up: The vibration platform which
Football Association of Malaysia’s conditioning trainer, Rasto Bozik, is
on helps reactivate dormant muscles and prevent future injuries.</div>
<div class="inline-caption">
</div>
</div>
The vibration platform is used to treat injured athletes such as
those who have twisted their ankles and have problems balancing.<br />
<br />
The technique is called stochastic resonance therapy and all the
athlete has to do is stand on the machine, which will vibrate at
varying intensity. The vibrations help stimulate and reactivate
dormant muscles to improve the recovery process.<br />
<br />
This technique also helps prevent future injuries as the muscles
will be conditioned to better withstand unexpected movements.<br />
<br />
“Many football clubs in Europe use this machine and they usually
get the player to kick a ball while standing on the machine and we are
one of the few countries in Asia to have it,” he said.<br />
“We usually advise athletes to attend three sessions a week and
within 12 to 15 sessions they should see significant improvement in
their recovery.”<br />
<br />
The NSI also employs an array of infrared cameras to capture the
movements of injured athletes. Called a motion analysis system, the set
up is somewhat similar to that of a Performance Capture Stage used in
videogames to capture actors’ movements.<br />
<br />
<div class="embeded-image">
<img alt="The gate analysis system used an array of high speed cameras and lets sports therapist analyse an athletes movement in detail." height="397" src="http://www.thestar.com.my/%7E/media/Images/TSOL/Photos-Gallery/Intech/2013/10/28/bytz_kw_p3b_2810.ashx?h=397&w=600" width="600" />
<div class="inline-caption">
In the spotlight: The motion analysis system can spot if an athlete’s form is weak, so that it can be corrected and improved.</div>
<div class="inline-caption">
</div>
</div>
Up to eight cameras will be arranged around an open space where the
athlete, outfitted with markers, will perform various moves. A
badminton player, for instance, will be asked to smash or perform a drop
shot so that the sport scientist can ensure that the movements are
fluid.<br />
<br />
“This allows us to see which part of the athlete’s form is weak and
we can then offer feedback on how they can correct their movement,” said
Teichmann.<br />
<br />
The system can also be used to enhance the performance of sportsmen
by making them emulate the movements of the world’s best players.<br />
<br />

<br />
<strong>The tech advantage</strong><br />
<br />
Just about every sport utilises technology in some capacity. <br />
Athletes can train however hard they want but to step up their game they still need technology, said Sturgess.<br />
<br />
But to make technology work for the players, they have to get the
fundamentals right — proper, consistent training, the right diet and
sufficient hydration are a must.<br />
<br />
“Once they get the basics right, that’s when technology gives
players that little extra to rise above the competition,” he said.<br />
<br />
“The difference may be as little as 2% to 3% but sometimes that is all the difference between the winner and loser.”</div>

KUALA LUMPUR - Rakyat Malaysia perlu mengubah jangkaan mereka
terhadap jaguh badminton No. 1 dunia, Datuk Lee Chong Wei agar harapan
sekarang.<br />
<br />
Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Institut Sukan Negara (ISN), Dato' Dr. Ramlan
Abd.
tahun.<br />
<br />
"Rakyat Malaysia perlu mengubah jangkaan mereka terhadap Chong Wei,
supaya sesuai dengan keadaan semasa dan juga faktor usia pemain itu
sekarang," katanya ketika dihubungi <i>Utusan Malaysia</i>, semalam<br />
<br />
Beliau diminta mengulas luahan Chong Wei selepas mendengar pelbagai
kejohanan Siri Super Terbuka Denmark, Ahad lalu.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir8C4LIkiKXKeuG-BND7m1zOE2FvRqgJK2aYynbyV3v3Y-MSDQVltgevldJhUE7qw-2hVC7b4sARpYiXLVgcsEZ6cQUzAKNRvdxkE3Prvg_Evbsgw1KvzFhHRdlbFM04AVgPDPHcZzBQwB/s1600/lee_choong_wei.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="156" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir8C4LIkiKXKeuG-BND7m1zOE2FvRqgJK2aYynbyV3v3Y-MSDQVltgevldJhUE7qw-2hVC7b4sARpYiXLVgcsEZ6cQUzAKNRvdxkE3Prvg_Evbsgw1KvzFhHRdlbFM04AVgPDPHcZzBQwB/s320/lee_choong_wei.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
"Elemen-elemen yang dimaksudkan seperti kecergasan, teknik dan
ditambah dengan pengalaman bermain serta tahap kemampuan pemain
menghadapi pelbagai cabaran dan kesusahan," ujarnya.<br />
Dr. Ramlan memberitahu, Chong Wei yang baru sahaja meraikan ulang
tahun kelahirannya pada 21 Oktober lalu masih mampu menggalas
tanggungjawab sebagai pemain utama.<br />
<br />
"Dari segi mental, terlalu memikirkan soal usia tidak sepatutnya
dilayan. Bagaimana kita hendak menilai keupayaan diri jika tidak mencuba
dan bagi saya sekiranya sentiasa berfikiran positif, semuanya boleh
direalisasikan," katanya.<br />
<br />
keadaan fizikal mereka.<br />
<br />
"Proses pemulihan yang lebih panjang amat diperlukan oleh atlet
berkenaan bagi mengelakkan mereka terdedah kepada sebarang kecederaan
dan sebab itu, mereka memerlukan pemantauan yang rapi," tegas beliau.<br />
<br />
Mengulas mengenai program pemain pelapis, Dr. Ramlan berkata, ISN

KUALA LUMPUR - Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Litar Antarabangsa Sepang
(bukan akhbar Utusan Malaysia), kelmarin.<br />
<br />
<br />
"Ingin saya jelaskan bahawa keputusan untuk membawa pulang Zulfahmi
ke Malaysia bagi menjalani proses pemulihan merupakan keputusan pasukan
dan juga kami sendiri. Kesilapan tersebut datang daripada pihak kami
(SIC) dan bukannya ISN."<br />
<br />
<br />
Bagaimanapun, Razlan melahirkan rasa gembiranya apabila badan induk
<br />
Menjelang GP Malaysia, beliau memberitahu, Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif
ISN, Datuk Dr. Ramlan Abd.
wildcard negara.<br />
<br />
"Selain rawatan komprehensif, ISN juga akan melakukan penyelidikan
bagi memahami secara mendalam terhadap pengurusan sukan pemotoran
khususnya membabitkan kecederaan dan rawatan.<br />
"Saya amat berterima kasih dan menghargai keprihatinan kakitangan ISN
terutama Dr. Ramlan yang memberi perhatian khusus kepada Zulfahmi dan
perancangan mereka untuk mewujudkan jabatan sukan pemotoran," katanya.<br />
<br />

<div class="NewsText">
KUALA LUMPUR, 7 Okt (Bernama) -- Pelumba Moto3 negara Muhammad
bahawa beliau perlu berehat panjang kemungkinan hingga tiga bulan
daripada kecederaan patah tulang.<br />
<br />
"Saya akan turun juga menunggang motosikal pada sesi latihan rasmi GP
Malaysia. Memang masih rasa sedikit sakit dan saya dinasihatkan supaya
tidak berlumba.<br />
<br />
"Namun bagi saya, saya yakin saya masih boleh berlumba. Apapun kita kena
lihat bagaimana keadaan saya pada sesi latihan rasmi nanti. Daripada
situ, saya akan buat keputusan sama ada saya akan dapat berlumba pada GP
Malaysia.<br />
<br />
Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Institut Sukan Negara (ISN) Datuk Dr Ramlan
Abdul Aziz berkata kebiasaannya kecederaan patah tulang memerlukan
<br />
"Ia bukan kecederaan otot atau tisu lembut. Memandangkan pembedahan
telah pun dibuat, ia membantu mempercepatkan proses pemulihan," katanya
ketika ditemui pemberita selepas membuat pemeriksaan terhadap kecederaan
Muhammad Zulfahmi di ISN di sini Isnin.<br />
<br />
<br />
"Saya berharap Zulfahmi dapat membuat keputusan yang terbaik selepas membuat ujian dengan motosikalnya pada Jumaat.<br />
<br />
"Kata Zulfahmi ia penting untuk memuaskan hati beliau dan melihat sejauh
mana beliau boleh beraksi. Bagaimanapun segala tindakan beliau itu
adalah atas risiko sendiri," kata Dr Ramlan.<br />
<br />
perlumbaan Grand Prix Aragon minggu lepas.<br />
<br />
Kamarul Hashimy Hussien.<br />
